Statue of John Hunyadi John Hunyadi (around 1407 - 11.08.1456, Zimony) was the most important military commander of medieval Hungary. He was awarded with the castle of Hunyad by King Sigismund, he got his name after this castle. He always considered himself as being Hungarian. His force defeated Turks in a battle at Nándorfehérvár. His son, Matthias was the most important medieval Hungarian king.
